Terms of Service

Last updated: 2026-04-23

These terms govern your use of ScreenGuardian (the "Software"), the screenguardian.app website, and any related services (together, the "Service"). By downloading, installing, or using the Software you agree to these terms.

1. Public beta

ScreenGuardian is currently offered as a public beta. Access is free for users who redeem a valid beta code. We may revoke any beta code at our discretion, with or without notice, which will return your device to the free tier. Beta users get early-bird pricing when the paid plan launches.

The free tier ("30-minute daily cap" described in the app) is free forever, subject to these terms.

2. License

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and run the Software on computers you own or control for your own use. You may not:

  • Redistribute, resell, sublicense, or bundle the Software in another product without prior written permission.
  • Reverse-engineer or modify the Software except where applicable law allows (e.g. interoperability under the EU Software Directive).
  • Remove or alter trademarks, copyright notices, or signing material.

Source code release is governed by the LICENSE file in the repository, where applicable.

3. Beta codes and acceptable use

Beta codes are for personal, good-faith use by the intended recipient. Publishing or selling codes, or attempting to bypass the beta gate, terminates your license immediately.

4. Paid plans (when they launch)

When the paid Pro plan launches, payments will be processed by Paddle (paddle.com), our Merchant of Record. Paddle handles taxes (VAT/GST/sales tax), invoices, and chargebacks. Buying Pro means you are entering a contract with Paddle for payment services and with us for software access. Paddle's terms (https://www.paddle.com/legal/checkout-buyer-terms) govern the payment relationship; these terms govern the software.

Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period. You can cancel at any time from the in-app account page or the Paddle customer portal; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

Refunds: Within 14 days of purchase, we offer a no-questions-asked refund, handled by Paddle. After 14 days, refunds are at our discretion.

5. Disclaimer of warranties

The Software is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. We do not warrant that:

  • detection accuracy (posture, distance, nail-biting, face-touching) is medically reliable, or
  • the Software is uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with all hardware.

ScreenGuardian is a wellness aid, not a medical device. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, or prevent any medical condition. If you have a medical concern, consult a qualified professional.

6. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid for Pro in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) $50.

Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations; in that case they apply to the fullest extent permitted by local law.

7. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time by uninstalling the Software. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms. Sections 2 (License), 5 (Disclaimer), 6 (Limitation of liability), and 9 (Governing law) survive termination.

8. Changes

Material changes to these terms will be announced in the changelog and, once accounts exist, by email. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the jurisdiction where ScreenGuardian's publisher is established. If that conflicts with a mandatory consumer-protection law in your country, the local law wins.
